BEST OF 2009 - my picks.

BEST SINGLE

Not sure if this is even considered a 2009 song being that it was released in 2008, but this song is a musical opus!

BEST POP SONGS

Couldn't choose just one! These songs are 2009 to me. And boy, does radio love them! "Party in the USA" is infectious and perfect, "Halo" is an experience, "Bad Romance" is epic and grand in every sense of those words and "You Belong With Me" is the pop-iest creation this year.

BEST "IT-WAS-SO-POPULAR-BUT-I-JUST-CAN'T-WHOLE-HEARTEDLY-LOVE-IT" SONG

I will admit this song got me pumped this year, but it def isn't one of my faves. But I feel like I have to include it because it was such a huge hit!

BEST URBAN SONG
I think this song is slighty underrated. Not on radio, because Lord knows it gets played a couple times a day till this day! But overall, this song is a masterpiece. Seriously, bravo to Keri.

BEST 'HOOD' SONGS (rap songs that made it out of the hood but are too hood to be #1 on the Hot 100 charts, lol) [IN ORDER]

"You're a Jerk" is kind of a given (put LA back on the map! thanks jerkin' movement), but "Ice Cream Paint Job" is a close second. The song is a throwback to "gutta", feel-good bangers of yesteryear (or maybe just any other year but this one... songs like 'Ay Bay Bay', 'It's Goin Down' and such). "Always Strapped" came out of nowhere but I fell hard for this song. You know it's hood because Lil' Wayne dropped his accent for it! lol

BEST HIP-HOP SONG

No song has made me more jealous, inspired and happy at the same time.

BEST LATINO SONGS

"El Amor" by Tito 'El Bambino'

"Watagatapitusberry" by Black Point feat. Sensato

"Abusadora" by Wisin y Yandel

"Mi Cama Huele A Ti" by Tito 'El Bambino' feat. Zion & Lennox

"Manos Al Aire" by Nelly Furtado

"Que Tengo Que Hacer" by Daddy Yankee

"Sentimiento" by Vico C feat. Arcangel

"Su Veneno" by Aventura

"El Ritmo No Perdona" by Daddy Yankee

This year's big players:

Wisin y Yandel

Tito 'El Bambino'

Daddy Yankee

BEST BRITISH SONGS [IN ORDER]

BEST POP ALBUM

Runner-ups (in order): "All I Ever Wanted" by Kelly Clarkson (highly underrated), "The Fame Monster" by Lady Gaga (so many bangers!) and "Rated R" by Rihanna (top notch production and lyrics)

BEST R&B ALBUM
too easy.

MOST OVERRATED SONGS

These songs weren't that great. Seriously.

BEST COVERS

MOST MEMORABLE COLLABS

BEST REMIX

Too easy! Although the minimalism of the actual song is great, the remix is better!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that this list is over, what do I hope for the next year? First off, better music. I didn't really think 2009 was an out of this world year for music. I didn't think there was much diversity. My idea for changing that? Less electronic-pop-dance-mainstream music infiltrated into every genre (how was "You Belong With Me" considered country? Why did hip-hop/r&b have to resort to electronica-dance undertones to get radio play?) and more of what each genre is about. If it's country, make it sound hella country. If it's hip-hop, make it sound grimy & HIP-HOP! And PLEASE, if it's R&B, don't make it sound pop with an R&B flair.
