The most colorful & stressful decade for the world, I'm sure. Google, the iPod, MySpace & Facebook were introduced and became mainstays-while some sites, like Nig*aspace, didn't quite catch on. We saw trends like pop-punk (thanks, Avril), trucker hats (thanks, Pharrell, Ashton Kutcher, Lindsay Lohan, & the Von Dutch brand), Manolo Blahniks (thanks, JL0), emo (thanks, Pete Wentz), Chinese slippers (omg), Uggs, Crocs, and who can forget the coolness of having a Livestrong bracelet! Dance crazes included the 'lean wit it, rock wit it', hyphy, jerkin, the 'crank dat' dance, harlem shake, the lean back, the chicken head, crip walking, and the chicken noodle soup. Loving some meant like loving them like a fat kid love cake, women were asking if their butt looked big (thanks, Nelly), men and women screamed "WHAAAT?!?" like they were from the ATL, spelled dirty with two Rs, and got their hair did. We worshipped couples like Bennifer and Britney and Justin, and reveled at the power couple that still is called Brangelina. The 2000s were a time when 50 Cent, Britney Spears, Beyonce and Eminem ruled, and when being trapped in the closet didn't necessarily have to do with not being straight.
The 'Naughties' was a time for development for me, being that I entered double digits in 2000 and spent half of 2009 as a 19 year old. I went through a lot during the decade--happy times and sad times--and many of my fondest memories are intertwined with the music of the decade. The albums below are my favorite of the decade and will hold a special place in my heart :)
