The good news? Vogue Italia's new websites embrace black people and curvy models. The bad news? Vogue Black and Vogue Curvy are two separate sites, sequestered from the main Vogue Italia homepage.
As New York Magazine's Amy Odell asks, "Why must curvy women [and] women of color… be viewed in separate channels?"
Just like with the black issue of Italian Vogue, there are two sides to this coin: The black and the curvy websites throw a spotlight on black women and on curvy models and declare them fashionable. The sites help further dialog about diversity in fashion, and get black models and curvy models working. There are spectacular photographs, interesting articles (in English!) and fun videos. The downside, of course, is that creating these two sites as separate entities from the main Vogue Italia page highlights and exacerbates the problem with fashion right now: There's a total lack of integration.
